PBS Docubloggers features Light, Bright

TEXAS DOCUMENTARY LIGHT, BRIGHT, DAMN NEAR WHITE FEATURED ON PBS THIS MONTH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEAUSTIN, Texas – November 15, 2007 – CCSquared Productions announced today that an excerpt from its latest documentary Light, Bright, Damn Near White will air on Austin’s PBS stations November 29-December 5 as part of the Docubloggers series. The piece explores the impact of Colorism on Central Texas communities through the eyes of those most touched by it. Colorism is a form of intra-racial discrimination – a phenomenon where persons of color are accorded differing socio-economic status and treatment within their own community based on skin color. Because those practicing it do not recognize this form of color bias as discriminatory, it goes on without discussion, protest, or opposition. Light, Bright, Damn Near White examines Colorism through interviews and personal case histories, providing a revealing examination of societal challenges raised by colorism for persons of color as they begin to understand this self-destructive practice, its imprint on them, their role in perpetuating it and the changes they can make to stop it.”Docubloggers provides a creative outlet for those of us in the film community with a passion for social issues,” said CC Stinson. “I am grateful to have an opportunity to give the KLRU audience a glimpse into an international phenomenon affecting our own community here in Central Texas.”KLRU’s new show, Docubloggers, is a half hour weekly series that takes a community-driven, interactive look at life in Central Texas. Combining documentary filmmaking and viewer interaction, Docubloggers incorporates stories produced by the community to create a portrait of the region.
